Discovery should document item types, movement patterns, storage conditions, existing applications, identity rules, device lifecycle, network coverage and the records required for review. It should also identify where a system must communicate with an external platform and where a local operational decision should remain independent. This level of detail helps prevent a promising visual dashboard from creating new operational ambiguity.

For ongoing use, teams need account ownership, simple training, monitoring, hardware replacement expectations, data-retention rules and a route for improving recurring exceptions.
